We send a small group of educators to be trained as trainers by CPI. We then use those trained as trainers to train small groups of teachers here at the school using the CPI curriculum.

Yes, the verbal de-escalation techniques are effective and offer a common language. Disengagement is also safe and effective. Organizationally, time needs to be provided for on-going practice since physical interventions are not used regularly.

We train all staff at some level of NCI. Some just get an overview with the emphasis on non-verbal and verbal interventions, other we add in dis-engagement techniques and with paras, pupil services, special education staff and administration get the full class. Staff need to take it every two years.
That when you set up at class that he data (participants and emails) auto load into the class documentation. It is pain having to set up the class then re-type everything into the documentation.

We use CPI regularly. It’s written in student’s behavior plans and IEPs to use verbal de-escalation skills and to only utilize physical safety interventions when needed.
I would recommend CPI to organizations to be able to add to the safety of staff and students as well as to increase their confidence when working with others. I have found that even teaching parents some verbal de-escalation skills is ideal so that what’s being used at home is being used at the school and vice versa.
