We use CPI to train selected teams in all of our buildings. We also train unit staff (teachers, paras, etc) as well as all administrators. CPI and PBIS are tied together now so we are looking to possibly expand the verbal component. We have had to remind staff it isn’t “restraint training” – the majority of the program is about not getting that far!
Yes – it is clear, concise and about the safety of both staff and students.

CPI teaches skills to help de-escalate behavior in people who are in distress. This knowledge is helpful in all walks of life; I have found myself using the strategies in and out of the workplace. It is especially useful to know these techniques especially now since so many people are experiencing anxiety and depression due to the pandemic and the state of the union (increase in violence/gun violence).
