We always look into DPA whenever we face any performance issues in our database. We like the drill down approach as it quickly points to the exact root cause of the ongoing performance issues.
A very good alternative to Oracle’s OEM (performance tuning pack).

I can quickly see what queries are suffering the most wait times when trying to execute, and what those wait time are for. That enables me to quickly track what is causing my server slow downs. Also, being able to align the VMWare host metrics with the Virtual SQL Server metrics has been a huge benefit and has helps me keep our VMWare admin honest.
It’s a great tool that gives you insight into poorly running queries and helps lead to to the root cause of performance issues.

The biggest benefit is at a glance analysis of resource wait consumption (CPU/disk/memory). We appreciate the ability to profile query round-trip performance historically and correlate it with execution plan and resource metrics at the time.
SolarWinds DPA provides agentless monitoring, minimal impact, query-focused, in-depth analysis. It is the best tool I’ve ever used. Navigation of reports could be easier, but once you get over that learning curve its great.

The biggest benefit has been that we have been able to pinpoint extremely poor performance on a couple of vendor applications to be due to poor application programming practices.
SolarWinds DPA is a great product and I would recommend purchasing it, if their budget allows it.
DPA tracks usage and pinpoints causes of problems in ways that I can’t imagine we would be able to determine with any other tools. Built-in SQL Server tools like profiler and query plan analysis would not be able to replace the view that DPA gives us.

It has been a great benefit. The ability to use preset alerts and custom alerts has dropped unintentional DBMS outages to to less than 0.5%. It gave us a fast and intuitive way to quickly analyze query bottle necks and poor performers.

I’m able to see all systems at once at a glance. If there are problems they jump out at me. Previously I would have to log in to the Enterprise Manager for each system to see if there were problems.

DPA is a great tool with small imprint. It is easy to install and configure (15 minutes) and it is collecting performance information.
DPA is the best tool out there for determining database wait time issues. It is easy to install and configure, self maintaining for historical metrics cleanup, and very logical drill-down capabilities. It also has great reports available, as well as out of the box alerts with the capability to write your own alerts.

DPA is an all in one database and virtual machine monitoring solution.
DPA gives a much more in-depth look into our database performance that helps our developers, DBA, and IT administrators get a better understanding of what is happening. Other software did not give as in-depth information.

DPA has allowed me to identify performance issues across all of our databases instead of just reacting to reports of slowness from users.
DPA aggregates performance data and lets you know where to focus your efforts.
The product does a great job of giving us transparency of what is happening inside the database and what elements are causing wait times. We have not found anything that we consider a real comparison product for Oracle SE.

SolarWinds DPA removed ambiguity in identifying performance bottlenecks. It also made it easier to go back in time to see what was impacting performance in the past.
Great tool to tell you what is actually happening in your SQL Server instances, which queries are responsible for the largest waits, and great to help to focus any performance optimization work on those areas that will benefit the most.

I was immediately impressed with SolarWinds DPA’s ability to find slow performing SQL that I had never noticed before. Being able to tune small problem areas has brought visible improvement to overall database performance.
An excellent visual performance analysis tool that immediately charts the largest performance problems. The ability to drill down from a SQL statement to the program/user/machine/file/etc is very impressive and helpful.

SolarWinds DPA provides quicker problem resolution, especially for DIR problems that are gone by the time we hear about them.
SolarWinds DPA is our corporate wide database monitoring and alerting system.
SolarWinds DPA acts as a flight recorder for our environment. Problems can sometimes take time to bubble up and by the time we are notified the problem is gone. We can see what was going on at the time of the complaint and usually resolve it from the info provided. We also use it to back up our scom alerts. It’s very customizable so we can build custom alerting with it too.
