CPI Helps You Reduce Challenging Behavior
Michigan Public Schools reduced challenging/disruptive behaviors by over 50% since implementing CPI de-escalation techniques.
In our facility, CPI training is mandated for Psychiatry, CCU, and ED. Our psychiatric facility has minimized the use of restraints and I feel the CPI de-escalation techniques have been a great help. Our staff have found that using verbal techniques properly can help an individual self-calm to the point that hands-on is very rarely used.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training is the foundation of all our security officer training. All of our staff are able to not take it personally, and to treat our patients with dignity, respect, and compassion, even following the worst acting-out behavior and violence. Our outcomes have never been better. Our ED and Med Surge nurses are all certified too and believe in the program. Thank you!!!
— Brendan Riley, Manager of Security, Lowell General Hospital
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training has given staff in both the behavioral and non-behavioral services areas the tools to interact with individuals who are escalating. Sometimes staff on medical units don’t think in terms of process and confuse setting limits with being in conflict with a customer, which may negatively affect patient satisfaction scores. Teaching the skills and reviewing actual cases and modifying the response to a CPI perspective has been informative and freeing to staff who struggle with patient interactions that require intervention. And in the end the patient/family member also appreciates it.

Our behavioral health staff are “used” to this type of training and like the flow of it, the practicality of the skills and now the Trauma Informed Care refresher. Much of this is new to our medial staff and they have been very positive about the information, having common language across the organization for understanding crisis situations.

Our facility has significantly reduced the use of restraint and seclusion since refocusing on the fundamentals of verbal de-escalation. Reducing such has lowered work-related injuries and retraumatization of patients as well as increased employee engagement and patient satisfaction.

Shelia Durggins, a Corrections Officer at Alabama Unified Judicial System, recommends CPI because:
CPI is consistent. When I receive training from CPI, all the instructors teach the same. When I call CPI for help with a behavioral problem, they are always professional and make sure that my problem is solved. CPI works if you use it properly.
